Ok everyone I'm a newbie here with a serious issue with my MK6 Transit.
Long story short, Drove 41 miles to manchester on saturday, no issues, smooth ride. On return journey about half way home (another 20 miles) engine just completely cut off with no warning.
Tried to restart engine, turns over but wouldn't fire. I had issues with an air lock in fuel system just before xmas which we sorted ourselves and was hoping this was the same issue.
AA turned up, asked what happened so i explained, he tried to bleed system (albeit briefly) and tried with easy start but wouldn't fire up although it seemed to be trying. He said it looks like the fuel pump.He didn't run a diagnostic on it so I'm not convinced.
Got it towed home.
Now before I go and spend a fortune on a new pump etc I'd like to try and figure out the problem myself first. I strongly believe that the issue could be an electrical one as opposed to a mechanical one.
When I removed the battery to recharge it as I killed it trying to start the van I noticed one of the connections was quite loose, could this have caused an electrical short? what would happen if say the connection broke momentarily while moving? would this cut power to the fuel pump making it stop working? could it blow a fuse or relay? as these are the issues I'm thinking could be preventing the pump from kicking in. I'm totally not convinced it is the pump itself more something stopping the pump working, any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
