It will probably keep shifting between 3rd and 4th at 30mph!

That's an interesting idea. So I reckon it would mean using smaller tyres, and that would bring the bad zone down below 30mph. My only misgiving about this is that I might bring another bad zone down to, for example, 40mph. At the moment 4th gear is perfect for 40mph. I think it's quite a big deal changing all wheels and tyres, maybe even similar in price to changing the gearbox?

ned wrote:I have had a thought, you know how transit speedo are wrong (mine is about 4-5 mph higher then the actual speed) so when your speedo says 30 mph is the actual road speed 25-6 mph?
You see if my speedo say 35mph it drive fine in 4th but the actual road speed (going off the prat nav) is 30 mph.
Just a thought.

It basically turns out you are right Ned. Recently I tried the speedo app on my phone again, and this time it showed my van speedo to be consistently showing 4mph higher than reality. That has pretty much fixed the problem. Ridiculous!

Pretty common really, my Mk7 shows ~7-8kmh over actual GPS reading. My motorcycle is worse, reads ~10kmh over actual. Both machines are using standard wheel & tyre sizes too.
My wife's Subaru Impreza is the same, reads ~9-10kmh high..
