It will probably keep shifting between 3rd and 4th at 30mph! :D

What about changing the wheel and tyre size. This will altar your final drive and change what revs you are at doing 30mph.

Google tyre calculator

2009 2.2 tdci 115ps just over 51k and sweet as a nut ( so far )
2002 2.0 tddi 100ps. Over 205k still sweet . Now owned by Jay.

Thanks mjs,

That's an interesting idea. So I reckon it would mean using smaller tyres, and that would bring the bad zone down below 30mph. My only misgiving about this is that I might bring another bad zone down to, for example, 40mph. At the moment 4th gear is perfect for 40mph. I think it's quite a big deal changing all wheels and tyres, maybe even similar in price to changing the gearbox?

There are many calculators online that you can put in diff size, tyre size, speed and it give you revs etc.
Bit of googling I think.

A good remap and intercooler might be the job too.
I use to have a 02 fwd 100ps and never had any issues .

ned wrote:I have had a thought, you know how transit speedo are wrong (mine is about 4-5 mph higher then the actual speed) so when your speedo says 30 mph is the actual road speed 25-6 mph?

You see if my speedo say 35mph it drive fine in 4th but the actual road speed (going off the prat nav) is 30 mph.

Just a thought.

Hi Ned and everyone. Finally made it back.

It basically turns out you are right Ned. Recently I tried the speedo app on my phone again, and this time it showed my van speedo to be consistently showing 4mph higher than reality. That has pretty much fixed the problem. Ridiculous!

Pretty common really, my Mk7 shows ~7-8kmh over actual GPS reading. My motorcycle is worse, reads ~10kmh over actual. Both machines are using standard wheel & tyre sizes too.

My wife's Subaru Impreza is the same, reads ~9-10kmh high..

So I've heard, but I didn't know it was as bad as that. One of my customers used to sell fleets of articulated lorries, and he had no idea about this. He reckons their speedos were accurate....

Have you ever watched AgentJayZs videos on YouTube? I find them interesting, and him entertaining.
