air in fuel or scv

Postby Ksmithplumb » Tue Apr 11, 2017 7:25 am

hi all

hope one of you can help please got my transit 3 months ago its a 330
2.4 tdci 2006 70tho with history .
drove nice other than rattily release Bering when cold
and slight injector
knock when cold just keep revs down till warm (standard for tdci ?)
then it started hunting and heavy knock even on tick over
so got it in for a new scv prv and pump learn etc not at ford
but local auto electrician with ford computer (in January)
this got it back to normal still cant rev or put engine under load
till warm . now its hunting again bad as ever asked garage and
they say don't need to pump learn again poss air in fuel
have run it from a clean 5 ltr can to rule out filter and tank etc
put a new filter on from ford as soon as got van .got to the
point of need risk money on leak off pipes as this is only
place air could be getting in now ?
but to me it is the same symptom as before when I
had scv and prv valve was done.
also what I thought was rattle on release Bering has got worse think its duel mass
gos when press clutch in has no affect on hunting clutch in or out

Were the SCV & PRV genuine Ford items?? If not they can give grief. New fuel filter..??

There's a PCM update for the Mk7's....do you know if it's been done?? Do you know if you have "anti-stall" activated.??

hi
new ford fuel filter was first thing I did been told not to use non gen
scv was from diesel specialist and was a genuine Nissan part apparently
the same as gen ford but cheaper . and prv was denso part no f1497165
did not save box for scv only saved prv as it was intact
has anti stall and did when I brought so been updated twice

Bad "hunting" is still usually the SCV and/or the PRV causing grief...

Have fitted faulty new parts before
Makes fault finding intresting .
It's like the anti stall is activated
On off on off etc get no smoke
That I normally would see with air
In fuel .
Going do clutch and flywheel first just because
It has needed doing since December .
What are your thoughts on single mass
Fly wheels . Will go back to garage about scv
Thanks for help

IMHO...I'd go the Dual Mass, they were designed to use them...others have used single mass without issue though....your choice.

Just a update my van has a soiled mass
Flywheel the noise was the release bering
And the input shaft on gearbox has way to much
Play but not leaking yet funds were a bit tight
So put a new release bering in because I had
One from a mk5 transit same part as mk7
Good old ford .
So van hunting less now ?? Think it's something to do with
Anti stall picking up on a tight spot on gearbox berings

Hope this makes sense

Release bering going again hunting at idle has returned
Or is it just that the airs a bit damper ??
Had pump learn pilot lean thing dun again
Just to see no different. Was thinking about changing mass air flow meter but they are 150 for gen ford .
Drive it every day still like it mpg could be beter no smoke from exsurst

Good question...I'm guessing the valves fitted weren't genuine Ford items, very common for them to fail or not perform correctly. Many of us have been there and done that....buy cheap...buy twice..!

so had my transit a year now in cold weather I get diesel knock it go's when i get her up to full temp
but that takes a while when you are afraid to rev you engine because you like it without any extra holes
in it . here is a list of things i have tried in order
.new ford fuel filter January 2017 no change
.scv and prv and update ran a bit better still knocking when cold
.10 tanks of top price fuel no change
.new air filter ford no change
.pump learn at different diesel specialist no change
.noticed van ran better on full tank so never let it go below half way getting some were now no more hunting still got the knock when cold
(should say the van would hunt hot or cold when it pleased at first and got worse as the year went on until i stopped running it down to 60 miles fuel in tank )
my thoughts at this point are its sucking in air so do i get the new filter housing £180 then if not that the £50 to a £100 each push fit pipes there are 5 to change have had to replace the two from the filter to the engine with 8 mm rubber fuel line because they had almost rubbed through in about ten places £75 each from ford or £10
getting a bit off topic but do a search for rubbing pipes and wires i did and am still finding them now. wiring loom were it crosses dip stick tube is a big one plus water pipes check and tape them up before its to late. should say love my transit and compared to my 08 6 speed dispatch its a dream
.so she runs better on above half a tank of fuel time to drop fuel tank .sender unit has a cup on it so when u have more than half a tank fuel flows in over the top no problem less than half a tank it has to come in though a little non return valve in the bottom of cup so when you go round a bend or up /down step hill on low fuel the van will not cut out. so cleaned the black crap off had a blow up fuel pipes from tank to filter housing pipes detached both ends to see they were clear .fitted new gen ford fuel filter (primed the filter with little electric pump £7 of ebay wont work if you just crank it over == flat battery and melted starter wires )
(back to the black crap in tank my van is ex Newcastle on Tyne council who run there fleet on bio diesel may be a connection don't no )
anyway i have a clean tank and filter go for a drive its like i have found 20 bhp its running smooth i can hold onto higher gears at lower revs
