Transit Loss of Power and Tapping Noise

Postby Wali110 » Wed Apr 12, 2017 6:12 am

Hi everyone

I am writing because of a problem that I have been having with my Transit.

It has been making a tapping Noise which is getting louder but I have covered 1000 miles since the Noise has started.

My Mechanic recons that it is the tappets that are causing this.

The Van has also recently been having a Power problem whereby the revs only go up very slow but this only happens occasionally and im not sure what may be causing this.

I would be grateful if someone could point me into the right direction as to what may be causing this.

Thanks

I'm guessing loose injectors/clamps, copper washers have possibly been beaten to death...

Do you have oil coming from the upper injector/rocker cover seals? Does she breath heavy when you take the oil filler cap off.??

The mechanic at my local garage told me that it is the egr to blame and replacing it would solve the problem and that that knocking noise it caused by the crankshaft pulley.

I am not sure why but my egr looks somehow different to the one i can buy and i am not really sure if that is my egr. Can someone confirm to me that is my egr that i will need to clean ?

Thanks

You could try a clean first , that's free to do . I use oven cleaner in the barrel to clean out carbon.

That's the map sensor, not the egr.

A faulty egr will not causing tapping noises, but loose injectors will, however the crankshaft pulley failing and knocking is very common.

thank you so much for your responses guys...i very much appreciate them.

i have actually already purchased the £30 pulley off ebay as the same one at europarts was around £200+ and I don't have that sort of money atm tbh.

can someone point out to me where I can locate the egr as it will need cleaning/replacing asap as my Van is suffering from a loss of power and stalls during the first 15 minutes of starting it.

thanks a bunch chaps :)

Tapping noise and lack of power :!: I think I would be having a good look at the turbo, if the shaft is broken the veins might be catching, pull the inlet pipe off and have a good look and feel for scoring and movement inside the turbo, might not be the problem but its free to check and could save you a fortune if it is. Your new 30quid pulley "WILL" fail sooner or later...unfortunately probably sooner..Best to get a genuine Ford one.

The EGR lives at the left rear of engine, just above the starter.....can be a pig to get at the bolts too if they're corroded. You can just see it from the top but it's easier to see from underneath.

Have you had the codes read..? If so, what were they?? Could help point to lack of power etc...
