battery flat ?

Postby bigholty » Wed Apr 12, 2017 5:21 pm

i get the occasional flat battery , dual battery system , starts ok but central locking is dead , it happens randomly and possibly once every 6 weeks ...nothing has changed i have a permanent lcd volt meter conected its normally around 14.5 volts running and around 13 volts engine off....had both batteries load tested around 3 months ago because of this , both showed to be working fine

Front battery is knackered, and having a permanently connect volt meter is just dragging it down

whats a good battery to replace it with ,if the dates of purchase ( if they are on the batteries ) are similar best to replace both or just the front battery if the dates are different .
what else is pulling on the battery when the ign is off ..i have a reverse camera connected to the rear fag lighter socket which is always on ( pulls 100ma ) and an led battery status display...that pulls a current so small small that my volt meter cant detect when its on or off ...
ive heard of some folks on here spending £160 on each battery ..that seems a lot when my old smiley transit used a £80.00 battery that lasted 8 years ?? ( i know its less electrical but only when running and then the alternator is running )

I always replace them as a pair.
Buy the best priced pair you can find
Varta are good

The camera drain will pull the battery down over time

Thought the camera might Ake , but its seems really random , its not done it since my last post , when it goes central locking stops working , ( i think the gemmel EX RAC fitted alarm then sounds once ive started it ) so i have to stop the engine lock and then unlock the doors on the fob ,the radio is locked ( lost code ) and the dash clock is wrong and the mileage trip is zero'd , its a pain to reset everytime, the battery led gauge is reading 1.5 volts or lower ( hard wired in to the ciggie lighter socket on the dash )
does the front battery have a cut off as i cant believe it can drop to less than 1.5 volts and 5 miles driving reading a full 13volts ign off and then be fine for a month ???
to be honest ive not checked all the earth points yet ...broken tailbone has put paid to stuff like that for now....oh and ive had the ESP light come one , ign off then back on and its gone ??

No, there is no cut out, so unless you have a slack battery cable, the battery is knackered

Standard fit on a twin battery van is type 100, however you can fit two type 110 in if you wish

Thanks ake , which is a good battery , people on here mentioned Varta , but theres a few , not sure what all the jargo surrounding the batteries means .
some are suitable for the stop start on modern cars , some come with a 5 year warranty , is the most expensive the best or is that over kill for a transit ??
