I've just bought some 16" alloys for my mk7 with a 15" steel spare. Would I be able to use the 15" spare in the event of a puncture just to get to the nearest tyre shop or would this create problems?

It will depend on the diameter of both size "tyres", if they're the same diameter, you'll be fine, ....if not, you'll have ABS issues as Punto has mentioned. Can you tell us what tyres sizes you have on the wheels..??

Old tyre size 195/70/15

The 16" wheels will have a slightly larger rolling radius than the 15", but as it's less than 3%, the ABS will never detect a difference, as BJT has said above
nedforceone wrote:Its very scientific you know, the side wall height is a % of the tyre width so,
195/70/15 is 195mm tyre width, 136.5mm side wall height, 15" : 381.mm wheel size so overall rolling radius is 517.5mm
205/65/16 is 205mm tyre width, 133.25mm side wall height, 16" : 406.4mm wheel size so overall rolling radius is 539.65mm
There will be a 22.15mm difference in overall size between the 16's and the 15.
Just over 4% difference
Hope that helps. N
