metal shavings in oil

Postby phdmarine » Fri Apr 21, 2017 12:22 pm

Hi, i have a 14 plate mk7 with 42k miles on the clock. Dipped the oil yesterday and metal particles were on the end of the dipstick.
Changed the oil and it was just full of them. was serviced 2k miles ago, none then. Any ideas? Typical 1 month out of warranty!

checked etis for recalls, none showing.
van was recalled in first year for the oil pump, was done at the time.
my local garage does suspect the oil pump, they said to contact arnold clark to see if they would help as we have had quite a few vans from them, just waiting for them to get back to me.

forgot to say, van was recently remapped and dpf removed, they claim that will have had no ill-effect, just getting an extra 150 miles per tank.

If you have metal in ya oil stop driving it

It will cost you more money to repair it

Dont except any dealer to sort it out for you under warranty. They will tell you to do one :(

Does oil light go out have you had the oil pressure tested

I would be checking the turbo on this year as well

One practical hint (not sure if it is applicaple in UK).

In Finland warranty eg. 1y starting eg. 1:st Jan will last 1y. But you have reasonable time to report the issue and that in Finland is 2 months. So even after 1y waranty has expired as long as you say during 2:nd month e.g. February that the issue started at december but you have not got time to report it earlier, it is still covered by warranty. Have managed to report one hard drive like such abt. 58days after warranty expired. :)

In the uk we have lifetime warranty but it can only be reported to the warranty inspector general otherwise it won't be honoured.
