Coolant still leaking.

Postby Andrew1974 » Mon Apr 24, 2017 11:19 am

Hi I've fitted a new vacuum and water pump so the water pump us no longer leaking. But there appears to still be coolant dripping under the engine bay, I don't think it's from the work I did. I've checked all of the hoses around the pump and they appear to be fine, there is one hose that seems to be wet, but it runs down to a black round unit on the left hand side underneath the engine. I'll have a proper look later, it's frustrating as I'd thought I'd fixed the problem

Still leaking, it's actually in the middle to the right of the water pump. It's running down onto the sump, at least that's what I think it is. It looks like coolant, there's a pipe above it that's wet. I'll take a pic tomorrow. Above the pipe there's two metal pipes.

A picture of the coolant leak, the hoses that's wet is directly above the alternator? Well that's what I think it is.

The alternator is on the right side of the engine.

I'd be giving the engine a good clean in the affected area...let it dry...then run at idle for a while till she's up to normal temp and the leak should be easier to isolate.

I've cleaned the area, it's only leaking when it's cold so still waiting for to start leaking again.

I've found the leak, it's coming from the end of one of the hoses. It's above the area in the first picture. But there's no way i can get to it, from what I can feel where the hose ends there is a metal pipe/joint. It appears to be leaking from under there.

Your first pic is of the starter from underneath....on the Mk6 2.4 the EGR cooler is just above the starter, might have a poorly coolant hose or loose connection.. item #1 here..:

Thanks Smithy, I had a feeling it was the starter. I'm thinking poorly hose.
