Mk6 transit non starter air maybe???

Postby trannyfreak » Mon Apr 24, 2017 3:42 pm

I'm at witts end on my mk6 2003 2.0 tdci transit, it's a non starter if I take the main inlet off from filter housing and put into a can of diesel it will fire up when I put main pipe back on to housing and try and bleed it up I can't seem to bleed it up and it won't run either I replaced the filter housing thinking it was that but still the same, any tips on how to bleed it up or is it something else the course of fault??

Tdci is a self bleeding system :!: Fill the filter crank the engine if no start after a couple of turn re fill the filter, it should start if not try some easy start/brake cleaner in the air intake if still no joy you might have a blockage on the fuel lines from the tank to the filter. N

I had to do this at the weekend, on a TDCi :)

You need to give it a sniff of easy start or similar, turn engine over for 10 seconds only. Rest it for a minute or so. Repeat this as many times as you need until it tries to start, 2 or 3 times should be enough.
Repeat a couple more times and it should run for longer and longer, until you can finally rev it.
That should be it, unless you have a fuel supply problem or an air leak

Also don't crack open any injectors, its a high pressure system so the fuel pressure needs to build up.
What fuel filter head is fitted to your van? Is it a black metal one with a screw lock whatjamacallit or one with that silly yellow indicator thing on it.

I believe on the tdci the pcm is programmed to cut the engine out when the fuel gets to low as to not allow it to completely run out of fuel. N

At a guess I would say the filter head is sh*t, go to a breakers yard or see if any one is selling any filter heads on here and change it.

Mines a solid metal one with no silly yellow bit or primer thingy.

Karl has a few parts so might be worth checking with him. N

Above is how you do it, I have ran out of fuel a few times, changed fuel filter a few times and also had the leak back pipes off, air has got in and the van has always started as above, the tdci will purge air out itself :D N

Just to confirm it definitely is a fwd 2.0l 125ps tdci?
Any mk6 fwd 2.0l less than 125ps is a TDDI
