Centre pin should be live but you should use a tester m8 you know these transits are all to cock

Grand, so black is live god I don't know, er-in-doors binned my multi meter I'll test it with erm.....erm......a electric test screwdriver if I can find it N

You can check them with a bulb One wire from one, and then the other, to an earth through a bulb. Only the live one will light the bulb

You could test it with one of your spare led marker lights, they'll only work in one direction. Find which is positive and negative on the marker light then try it on the plug you've got
