door lock

Postby ray1965 » Thu May 25, 2017 5:49 pm

mk6 2.0 swb
for a while, when opening the door from inside, occasionally it wouldn't open first time, I assumed like the outside it needed adjusting
I took the van off the road about 3 months ago, for a bit of welding and a few mods
LOL
after chasing the tin worm, and the mods taking a lot longer than anticipated
finally yesterday I re connected the battery, but the central locking dosnt work
I have got it down to the drivers door mech has broken, it works externally but not internally
the pull handle dosnt work
the lock button does but only operates on that door
externally all works fine
passenger door works everything properly

parts changed
chrome pull handles
manual windows to electric
new door seals
high security lock

anyone else had this issue

Check the wiring in the door, this was mine

All repaired now and working perfectly. N

have taken the whole latch out and its defo that part
will get another from e-bay
but drivers side seem to be far and few between, so wondered if it was a common fault, or being the heaviest use lock mech, that people just don't bother to list them

Most likely :-)

Can you see where the cable operates? Maybe it has bent slightly and it is missing the bit that opens the latch?
or is it knackered,:-(

i have the mech on the bench
the lever that the cable pulls, pulls full way across, but dosnt release the latch
the outside handle part, the bit with the yellow clasp, does release it
they both operate the same lever inside, which you can see
so somewhere between the arm and lever its either come loose or broken, as its sloppy at that lever
but chances are, try and pull it apart and the scrap man will be taking it away

took a latch out a transit tonight that does exactly the same as you've said.

Had a look online for a latch....£150!!!

Tomorrow I'll find out why the latch doesn't work....theres a bit more motivation to find out why now that ive discovered the price of a new one :)

I did have a look at it and it would be fixable....a wee bend on the end of a lever behind the white plastic bit.

I needed a lock anyway so got a latch/ lock / bonnet lock / ign lock / key and remote for £20 locally. :D :D :D
