08 mk 7 100ps transit. Coolant level down, no leaks

Postby Mbrit79 » Fri May 26, 2017 7:51 am

Hi,

I've got the above transit and the other day had a water pump fitted by ford due to it leaking.

After driving the other day the heater suddenly went red and we pulled over and the pipe that goes from the pump to the back of the thermostat came off. AA came out and he said the pipe had come off cos the mechanic didn't fit the spring clip back on as the clip was 6 inches down the pipe!

Anyhow, he did all the pressure tests etc and van was fine, no head gasket issues etc. Drove 5 miles home and left it. Went back to van 2 days later, checked the coolant and the level went back below minimum!! I've filled it back up, drove 10 miles and the coolant is fine.

What could have caused this? Could it be under the pressure tests etc that the water hasn't settled and I've just put it back to its proper level? It can't be gasket related as AA said it was fine...

im guessing when the aa re filled the cooling system , it wasnt fully bled , probably a pocket of air that was remaining inside the engine and that air pocket got forced out with the flow from the water pump whilst driving {faster the engine revs the faster the pump works} , now its more then likely bled , its normal to keep check of the coolant level after being drained down/refilled and to top up if needed, its not like putting water in a bottle where the air just comes straight out , most of it does but theres areas where air can get trapped ,
