Replacing brake lines

Postby 1robbie » Tue May 30, 2017 5:25 pm

How difficult is it to replace brake lines yourself for someone that has never tackled such a job ?
Can the lines be bought all ready to install or is that too expensive ?
Are the lines difficult to make up yourself ?
Thanks for any replies .

depends on who you are and what your level of experiance is in general IMO, for me having plumbing experiance for example , theres a few things that would come natrually to me when doing this job that others might take less care with, ebay search "kunifer pipe" and brake flare tools, its not that hard to do imo,

Its fairly simple and cheap. I just change the front and rear lines on a van. I made them up out of copper and used new fittings/rubber hoses

You just need copper pipe, fittings, a brake pipe flaring tool, pipe cutter and a de burring tool.

You can bleed them out after with a standard bleeding tool, if you undo anything on the ABS you will need ford IDS to bleed.

As I have not removed the old pipe yet, is it a bubble flare or double? Just need to know for which flare tool to buy.

It’s most likely to have both single and double and and tools I’ve got and do both I prefer kunerfer but if you not done the job before copper is easyer to use and seal

Thanks, it's the rear brake pipes, the ones that follow the the axle, if they do us a combination of flares, was wondering if any one had made a list/diagram of which type of flare to which end.

Hi
Bought a set for my mk 6 from ebay £21.99, fitted well included nuts all you need to do is match the bends to your existing lines.Re bleed the brakes. And you are done.
Cheaper than buying a tool and copper+ nuts when you may not use the tool again again,

I used a bubble flare, looked exactly like the on I took off, no leaks and seems to work well. Will be checking it a few times just to check it holds and no leaks. Just to be sure :-). Easy to bend the pipes and replace.
