Not starting

Hi all im new to this forum
I live in Sydney Australia
And im always turning to this forum for advice so I thought might aswell join!!
Im having a issue with my mk7 jumbo transit
Its doin the following
Hard start/no start when it has been running for a while
But if i clutch it it will start and run all day
Installed a new starter and it would start first go in the morning or if its been parked / cooled down
I had all the relays checked and the auto electritian seems to think the starter isnt running its full course
So we tryed starting it via a fusable link instead of of the relay and if u held it long enough it would start
Really has me puzzled
Any advice would be greatly appreciated
And the batteries have been tested and are all goo

Hi Jumbocp....and welcome..

Firstly....Whereabouts in Sydney are you..?? Have you had the codes read? If so what were they?? How many kms on your beast??

Secondly....Unless it's absolutely necessary, never "clutch" start your tranny....the timing/cam chains have been known to jump teeth....if you "must" do it...tow starting is the best method, put her in 3rd and tow from a dead stop with the clutch out....it's the sudden hit when dumping the clutch with no oil pressure which causes the problem....the cam chain tensioner relies on engine oil pressure to work properly, no oil pressure and a sudden hit from clutch starting often = grief.

I have a 2008 mk7 2.4rwd 115 tdci it is a struggle to start hot and cold you will be turning the engine over and it will sound like the battery is flat u turn the key back off and back on and go to start it again and it will turn over the engine will vibrate like the engine is running but it's not? Turn the ignition of and try to start it again after a few attempts it will start but is like this hot or cold! Any ideas ?? Thanks

Im from carlingford in NSW
It has 220000km
Starts first thing in the morning but one i turn it off
I cant get it restarted unless i fill my filter up with diesel or
I spray easy start
One its on it will run all day ( im in the courier game so its not ideal
For it to not start
But today i had a new symptom of it turning of as i came to a stop
No codes showing im suspecting it could be pcv or the filter
Housing

Any ideas or has anyone come across this problem
Not many mechanics deal with these vans here in Oz

Sorry for the late reply...have been away for a wee while....

Certainly sounds like an air leak on the fuel inlet side of things...although a duff SCV and/or PRV can cause all sorts of grief.

You really need the codes read before we can do any diagnosing...I'm in Campbelltown and have IDS if it helps any.
