That adaptor looks identical to my own so should be ok,I like the usb units better than bluetooth , the speed is better and the connection more reliable the bluetooth ones have been known to freeze

Thanks, me too I feel like you get a better connection on wired USB to bluetooth or wifi. I might have to code a pump on a Focus diesel next week so this could pay for itself quite quickly!

Hi Rob T and Folks,

I've been going through this process with Forescan and a new key.

I got a second hand laptop on eBay for £200, and bought a lead from Amazon. Got a lot on, so haven't been able to complete the whole thing yet. But it seems like something in my van (ex Royal Mail) is blocking access by Forescan.

I was quoted £260 by Ford for a duplicate key cut and programmed! £108 per hour labour charge! So I bought a new one for £60 from eBay, got it cut for £6, and am eagerly awaiting programming it myself.

Yes you can reprog a second hand key with forscan, just remember to fasten it to your existing key with tape an charge it it will take the transponder coding OK but if the central locking battery is dead it won't take the code for the buttons

Great, just programmed second hand blue key with IDS, always was buying new virgin fobs on ebay, as someone said that ids accepts only new keys.

The key is "stupid" the van isn't coded to the key, when you programme a key the pats flashes the transponder a new identity I had to get a van going and used the spare for my van it worked grand the only downside was the fob still opened my van although it wouldn't start it

BTW when I discovered the fob still opened my van I deleted all the keys and just had my main and new spare ,always a good idea to do away with any unaccounted keys from the vehicle your working on

Hey Davyjcb, I tried something today.

I have a new blue key which is as yet unprogrammed. I got it cut for £6 on eBay.

I started my van with the old programmed key, flipped out the blue part with a small screwdriver, and popped the new blue part in to charge up the battery. The van kept running. No probs

It will do; the immobiliser is inoperative once the engine is running, and will only reset when you stop the engine and take out the key.
It won't re-start with the non-progragrammed key, you'll just get the immo light flashing fast :)

Altransit is 100% correct it will only look for transponder when turned on from pos 0 once it's started it doesn't care

funny thing is that i used my own key from another own van, and now when locking unlocking, both vans locks unlocks on the same key, at the same time when parked close. just it doesn't start old one.

The remote entry loads the info from the fob to the locking module cos the fobs have fixed signal outputs .The transponder is reversed it gets set by ids and the pats so that's why you can open both vans but not start one firm I do work for has a fob that opens every mk 7 in its fleet
