Head gasket Part I.D.

Postby McFly78 » Tue Jun 20, 2017 9:26 pm

I have a 2013 2.2 155 RWD Jumbo transit, The Head Gasket failed so Stripped and had head pressure tested and skimmed. Cleaned up and Rebuilt using new gasket set ordered form Ebay (not the best choice I know). Checked vehicle suitability and all seemed fine. Schoolboy error has occurred as i did not lay the two gaskets together before fitting. The question is now are RWD and FWD gaskets the same?? I now have a oil leak at the front of the engine above the fuel pump that seems to be coming from the Head Gasket joint. Just trying to eliminate the possibility of wrong gasket first... Thanks in advance for any help.

As I understand it, there are three different gaskets for your machine (2013 2.2 RWD 155ps):

1 notch 1.10mm is Pn:1776498

2 notch 1.15mm is Pn: 1776501

3 notch 1.20mm is Pn: 1776502

The earlier, up to ~2012-ish Mk7 2.2 FWD's are indeed a different Pn:
Whether they're compatible or not I don't know..

Hope this helps.

Thanks knobby1 for the info. It appears I have to strip it again and start over ☹️. Slightly frustrating but hey ho lesson learned.
I will order genuine parts this time. When I get it apart I will post 2 pics of any differences in the gaskets. Just for reference.

A couple of pictures showing the difference between FWD and RWD head gaskets (Perhaps i should have noticed!!). There is a considerable difference in quality between genuine and non genuine. Interestingly the coating on the non genuine comes off and became clogged around the thermostat. Stick to genuine parts in this case!! Thanks

Image shows both gaskets FWD ( non gen) on top of RWD (genuine).
