weird abs fault

Postby maccavvy » Wed Jun 21, 2017 10:59 am

Hi guys got abs light on..
had it diagnosed as o/s sensor .
ordered a new one from tpuk
fitted still a fault. found a break in the vans wiring just before the plug
which I cant seem to find anywhere. so cut it off and soldered a different waterproof plug on.
light still on. not had it diagnosed as yet as its a cost I can do without
ive checked the wiring for chafing . up to the tank theres nothing.
is there a way I can test it with a ohm testmeter or something?
is there something else I should be looking for ?

small update.. checked continuity of all cables from axle to connector at front.
no earth faults
no breaks in cable.

At a loss now

Get it on diagnostic again and see if it's still the same fault

You didn't cross the wires over did you? They may be polarity sensitive

Have you road tested the van after you did the repair :?: You need to do 20 mph approx. to put the light out without a scanner

update time

set off to work this morn.. no lights.. approx. 2 miles from home on it pops.
2pm set off from job no lights on again ..about 4 miles later .. on it pops again.

I'm thinking the rear harness is at fault.. as since I messed with it I now have something changed

Wiring fault will have the light on straight away on key on diagnostic.

Sensor fault ie calibration or ring problem brings the light on while driving.

I think you should recalibrate the longitudinal and steering sensors, physically check the reluctor rings for dirt/breaks, and check and make sure that the tyres are the same size and pressure and that the steering tracking is good.

I'm thinking wiring as the light used to be on all the time.. since I messed with wiring (uncovered some of the loom to check for breaks /rubbing) its now intermittent.
Are the rear sensor ring easily visible to clean up ?? or is it discs off ??

tyres are fine and tracking was done 3 weeks ago as it was scrubbing the fronts

How do I recalibrate the sensors?
hopefully I get an early finish and look into the other things too

Calibrations need ids or similar diagnostics, wheels straight ahead and parked on level ground, 5 minute procedure but well worth doing as it'll save you a lot of other work trying to find the problem.

Intermittent coherence problems should bring up a historic fault as wiring as breaks will cause open circuit rather than signal out of range.

Intermittent warning lamp should be diagnosed if possible but you need diagnostics that can read all the abs info :-)

Check the wiring loom close to abs pump at the point that the earth wire to the starter motor is and see if the two have chaffed together
