Mk7 Sport Van questions

Postby 1958 harry » Fri Jun 23, 2017 9:40 am

I'm thinking of getting a late Transit Sport with the 140bhp engine.

Just wondering a few things...

The one I'm looking at has a factory bulkhead, I would want to turn it into a crew van, is it possible to move the factory bulkhead back to just behind the side door?

Roughly how much is it to have 2 privacy glass side windows installed?

And what is there to look for engine/gearbox wise, any horror stories? These are the FWD 140 2.2tdci versions.

How can I ensure what I'm (hopefully, just need my mk2 Firevan to reach it's Ebay reserve so I have the funds) buying is a genuine Sport Van and not a replica?

Will a Low roof SWB Sport Van fit in most car parks? This will be our family car as we are selling the Mk2 and our Q3 to release funds/clear finance so my wife can give up work as she has severe Rheumatoid Arthritis.

And finally (honest opinions I know on a Transit forum we'll be biased!) Is a Vw T5 or a Transit Sport Van more practical as a daily?

Now then ,now then ,,The bulk head only fits behind the front seats you'll have to make one out of bits of wood and carpet
The glass is about 150 shelkels and unless your a bird is easy to glue in
But why do you want a chavi sport van ?
I thought they Were just for sados and jimmi savile types
Howz about that then?

Cause I like em! It's either that or a T5 tbh. And you get more for your money with a Sport Van.

You should be able to pick up a crew van bulkhead off eBay if you want to separate the rear but personally I'd leave it open.

Sport van doesn't have the spare wheel carrier under the rear, so is one way of telling a genuine one... plus if you do a proper hpi check - you should get a genuine one.

2 side windows will be about £300 fitted, more if you want opening ones.

I'm just fitting mk8 rear seats to my Mk7 , would recommend these over Mk7 seats....

I've had t4's, t5's and now Transit's.... 4th Mk7 , and use them as my work van and daily driver, can't recommend it enough, mainly due to load carrying and driving position.....
only downside is parking - but only for height restriction, swb will fit in any standard parking bay.

Great, thankyou, I have a twin mk8 seat that is fitted to my Firevan, so if that ever sells I'll fit them to the Sport Van.

Did they not do a factory Sport crew van? I've seen a few with rear seats but not sure how " factory " they look to be honest!
I did have a quick look around when I was looking for a crew van but to no avail. I got a Limited 140 t280 6 seater swb instead and figured I'd just put a kit on it if I could find a Ford one secondhand somewhere and put some sport alloys on. :D
