Cutting injector seats 2.2 question

Postby glenandemm » Sat Jun 24, 2017 4:34 pm

Hi guys I'm gonna recut my injector seats clean the surface up with a cheap cutting set I bought but not sure which size I use, is it the 17x17mm cutting piece required?
Also what do you do about the waste cut off is it ok to allow it go into the cylinders or try to use a magnet or something to get it out?

Well good luck with a magnet to collect the aluminum swarf.

Cover the cutter in grease and only take small cuts before pulling it out and cleaning it.
I'd use Castrol BNS as it is very soft and sticky and in my stock of stuff.

mk6 X reg 2.4 T350 LWB MHR RWD - scrapped
mk4 J reg 2.5 L300 LWB MHR RWD - sold on

Notice a trend there ? not too big and not too small

As above with grease, you don't need to cut it very much, and yes, it's the 17mm cutter.

I worked on the assumption that the stray ally swarf wouldn't last very long in the cylinder once the engine started  :P

All done guys, tooo the injectors out could see on 2 the carbon coming up the sides!
I had to work the cutter down into the base before I could clean the seat up.
I stuck a magnetic screwdriver down a few times and kept clearing them and cleaned the bores out, new seals all round rebuilt and ran like a dream.
Nice little service too and she's running sweet, feels like its pulling stronger too but might be my imagination!!

Once again...I'd love to find a magnet which will attract aluminium....you've done very well if you've found one!!

Do you have a link to this "aluminium magnet"..?

Haha I just think thought it was magnetic with the crap it was pulling out!!
Must have just been the oil then sticking it to the screwdriver!
Either way it's sorted and sweet now pal
