2lt FWD 2nd gear not being selected

Hi guys knew to this so sorry for any mistakes!!

Iv got a ford transit tourneo 03 plate, 2lt fwd.
It is somtimes strugelling find 2nd gear. All other gears are okay but second somtimes does not work. It feals like it goes in okay but when I lift the clutch it somtimes makes a crunching/rasping/scraping sort of sound. Usually if I force it with my hand it goes in and does not pop out at all. Sometimes I can feel it hasn't quite gone in so I need to try a few more times till I feel It go in fully.
I adjusted the grey cable and it seemed to help for a bit but then got worse again. Today I fitted a knew grey cable and went to test it and it still has the same problem so I know it's not the cable!
Could this be somthing with the gear selector like the bearing ? Not sure what to try next..
