2 Completely failed remote fobs?

Postby Karst » Sat Jul 01, 2017 10:18 pm

Hi My very valued and really helpful Transit folks,

I have had a couple of basically reliable remote fobs for my 2000 Mk 6 Transit for a few years.

A while back they started failing intermittently, and a kind fellow on here said all they needed was new batteries. Indeed, that was all they needed!

(I also tried changing the module just before that, but that didn't work)

Now though, both my fobs have suddenly failed, even though I've tried several different brand new batteries in them and done the standard reprogramming method several times. The reprogramming goes through all the motions just fine, door locks cycling twice, but then the remote buttons on the fob do absolutely nothing.

I have had a search for this problem on the forum, but yes, I could not find this exact problem.

I'm sure it's something really simple?

Please help? :?

Hi Robbie,

Thanks for that.

The whole locking and alarm system still works normally through manually using the key in the driver's door, but I checked the fuse under the steering column anyway (nearly bust a gut getting to it and putting it back!) Nothing wrong with it!

Thanks Ake, I think I'm gonna have to try that.

Hey Altransit, I had another look and found 3 fuses, 1 x 15A and 2 x 7.5A here - https://goo.gl/photos/dp9Xadqnwa34WPn98. All 3 were fine. Are there more?

I got the module several days ago, but still haven't fitted it, but hopefully will get it in yesterday.

Honestly, I've been using the key to lock/unlock it, and in many ways it's easier than pressing the fob buttons 10 times before they work and always having to walk round to the right place at the van so the signal gets through.

Did you know if you hold the remote fob at your head it amplifies the signal? Have you ever tried it? I tried it through 2 brick house walls. Held normally - no effect. Held against the head - it worked consistently. Do you think it would cause any brain damage?? Otherwise I could use that method all the time and never have any remote fob problems.

Jeremy clarkson from top gear said it worked, and he used to do it, he lost his job. Make your own assumption on that one.
