alternator wiring.

Postby alloageorge » Wed Jul 19, 2017 12:45 pm

battery light came on while driving along with some extra squealing on the fanbelt.
on inspection theres only one wire going into the alternator and another hanging loose.
i changed the belt and crimped a new connector onto the loose wire.
unfortunately battery light is staying on.
looking at another alternator are there supposed to be three wires?i cant find a third loose wire.
hope this makes sense.
also, are the plugs a standard size.where can i buy one?

A scrap van is the best bet for a new plug

just as a follow up for anyone else out there who doesnt know what they
are doing most of the time.
I decided to take the new fanbelt off and forgot that the tensioner was at
full extension.as i moved the tensioner to loosen the flybelt i broke it.
Not only that but the tensioner was seized on and i had to pry off with
a small crowbar.
i've fitted a new alternator(which was surprisingly easy).
Just need to source a new tensioner

van working well now.was a bit tight putting on fan belt
and i didn't tighten the tensioner bolt enough.fortunately
it was obvious when i started the engine.
