125/90 swap 2.4 swap query

Postby Sammyt002 » Thu Jul 20, 2017 8:53 pm

Evening all. My 125 had started tapping a bit so I'm looking to get a spare engine lined up ready for D-day as I can't have the truck off the road for long.

My question is;

Could I use a 90 block/head and bolt everything from my 125 to it? I've been told there may be differences but no hard evidence to back up the claims.

Apologies if it's been asked before, I did have a frail search before hand but obviously blind if I missed it.

Thankyou!

Is it really that simple? I figured the pump/map would be what makes the difference but wasn't 100%.

Thanks very much for that. Saves head scratching!

Don't quote me, but believe the turbos are calibrated to suit the various outputs(?)

I have read elsewhere on the forum that the 90ps has a different timing chain (and maybe also sprockets guides or tensioner) to the 115/125ps etc of the same era. Haven't confirmed this myself yet.

I'm interested to know if the 90ps turbo is a smaller size to spool up quicker or whether it's the same size and the power output is only limited by the fuel system. If it's a smaller turbo then the airflow might be inadequate for the fueling and result in some visible smoking or fouling up, like when you have a boost leak?
