Flip key?

Postby Thequeenscheese » Wed Jul 26, 2017 12:03 pm

Is there a flip key out there that works with the mark?

My old Navara did t have one but found that the almera version on eBay worked with a little adaption, with that in mind Mayne Fiesta, mondeo, focus etc may work if not?

Cheers

You can get flip keys from ebay with blanks so you can get then cut yourself.

The issue with this is the transponder. You need a replacment for that. You can get them on ebay but you still need to get it programmed into the immobilizer. Or you can go to those shops that can copy transponders and spare keys. But expent to pay dearly for that depending on the shop.

The ford stealer could order a flip key and program it. It would not be officially supported by ford so they will probably refuse to order a key model that was not sold with the mk6....

I've got a flip key for my MK6. Cost £10 for the blank key from aliexpress. £3 to get it cut and £5 for an ELM327 to use with the free program Forscan to code it in.

I think with a MK7 the problem is the remote locking. As far as I know only the genuine ford blue keys are linked so that when you program the key in with PATS it also codes in the remote locking.

Well that's pants, obviously there's a huge market if someone made one, so it's not just the 3 buttons and a transponder in the key then?
I had a similar problem with my navara but I spotted that the almera aftermarket flip key was near enough the same I had to butcher the old key a little to get the transponder out but all worked fine.

Looks like I'll be getting stabbed in the leg then constantly tut..

I believe the mk7 has a circuit board in the key instead of the wee glass transponder. N

Do you mean in the blade or built into the plastic housing somewhere?

How does the transponder work? I'm guessing it's some sort of nfc device, with that in mind could another transponder from another vehicle be programmed to the right frequency/setting to work? Or are extremely specific to the model of motor?

The circuit board, battery, and transponder, are all built into the fob housing. The blade is a standard Tibbe blade

I'm not sure why a Mk2.5 Focus flip key cant be used with a changed blade, but maybe the frequencies are different :? I think that Paul2012 did a post on the various keys, somewhere on here

The mk7 Transit remote is unique because it has the wireless charger built into it, and that's why it's not compatible with any other fob.
