MK6/7 seat trim removal

Postby Hovervan » Thu Aug 17, 2017 9:53 am

Hello chaps,

we finaly managed to grab a cheap single passenger seat *yes*, probably its from a MK6 because other canvas decor that my mk7 has but console seems to be identical.

But two large problems:

1. this seat stinks as hell and is dirty

2. we want to go on holidays on sunday

Has anybody an idea how complicated it is to remove the whole seat trim? I think our only chance is to put it in the washing machine.

Please help, my lady doesnt want to to 2000km single way on the shitty dual seat bank

I've removed the seat covering a few times to instal heater pads.

They're fairly simple if you work methodically, the metal "pig rings" need prised apart to remove. But instead of mucking about trying to refit them, use cable ties on reassembly. There is a metal rod incorporated into the foam to tension the middle seam lines, don't put too much pressure on this, as it can pull apart from the cushion.

After removing the headrest, the plastic tubes twist 90 degrees and pull out from the top.
The arm rest unbolted from the pivot with a torx bolt.

I'm sure on the bottom of the backrest there is two plastic channels that slot into each other to secure.

If the base it really bad, the covers can be bought for about £40 on eBay I'm sure. :D

Its likely that if you machine wash the cover it will shrink and not go back on the seat.

Only if the washing machine is on a hot setting.

I've done this many times, without a problem
