Knocking after turbo replaced

Hi
my mark 7 transit lost power a few times then my turbo blew the following week and it just died.

i towed it to a mechanic i know how stripped and had the turbo reconditioned, he told me he'd service it all and clean all intercooler and pipes as it all needed doing.

the vans now up and running but has an engine knock, sounds like from towards the bottom. I joined another group before finding this and someone has led me to believe as he didn't clean the intercooler and pipes (he said he didn't need to as no oil there) that debris would have been there and sucked into the engine, and now the knock could be the little end.

I have 3 transits mark 7, two 56 plates and a 59 all for my small building company, can't believe I've just found this forum as i have no mechanical knowledge at all so any help info or guidance on this would be great
