engine stop running suddenly

Postby smudger114 » Mon Sep 04, 2017 1:05 pm

hi all
i have a 2002 t280 transit 2000 di which is used daily and had no problems with lately until driving to wales on wed
when suddenly the engine just cut out whilst climbing a hill.
i pulled into the layby thinking that the diesel was low and maybe tip to the back of the tank but this was not the case
the van turns over but wont start at all as if no fuel is getting through
anyone have any ideas what this could be
a mechanic has tried to connect his computer thing but says it won't talk to it

cheers Paul

Could well be a failed fuel pump EDC, they do fail without warning, a code read would confirm

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly

I spoke to my mechanic and he has said he cant get my van to talk to his diagnostic thingy
but said if he sprays easy start it will run but roughly then stops
there is fuel to the injectors which seem clear but he thinks the pressure is to low
would this be the case if it was the pump or could it just be a blockage
he also though it might be a cam sensor if that makes sense

Transit mk6 is not obd2 compliant so most code readers wont talk to the buggers.
I'm with Mr Ake your pump is dead.

If its FWD it could be the wiring around the starter motor. N

hi thanks for your input

my mechanic has had his code reader on my van before and had no problem but seems to be having difficulty now

it is a fwd and since the problem my battery light seems to be staying on all the time.
and could you please clarify what EDC after fuel pump means

EDC is the electronic part on the fuel pump. N
