I'm sitting here with my second fake VXDIAG VCX Nano. This time I went for one being sold at a higher price and the listing even said tested with PCM programming which it obviously wasn't.

Both my scanners work for code reading and live data but any module programming they just throw errors. The one I got a month a go looks like it's going to work then throws an error code. The one I got today just says vehicle battery too low, I hooked the van to a charger and still the same. Looking at the details it's only picking up 6v at the obd port. The other tool shows 12.7v so it would seem that's where the problem lies with the second fake.

Can anyone recommend a seller of a decent VCX Nano or VCM II that will work with module programming? Failing that does anyone have IDS near Rugby/Coventry who I could pay to update the ECU's on a couple of vans?

You need the module programing hack

You have to activate the timer then go back to module programming then it works

I've got and have activated the Ford Extended Programming hack that gives a 120 day extension to module programming. Is that what you mean or is there something else I don't know about?

The error code with the one tool is: 0 - 0x0 851082

As this tool got the furthest before throwing errors I'm going to see if it works any better on a old win xp laptop and a different version of IDS. Not holding out much hope but maybe I'll het lucky with it

Unless you buy a genuine VCM2 for around £2k and pay the annual subscription to Ford for ids, they are all going to be fake.

Yeah I understand that they are essentially all a knock off of the ford vcm2. There seems to be plenty of members with good clones though and I've heard the ones that are made by VXDIAG are good if genuine and likewise the VCM2 clones can be good. Problem is the Chinese copying the copies and losing some functionality along the way.

I've searched this forum for ideas of which diagnostics cable to buy. Still none the wiser. I have a 14 and a 17 plate transit custom. What would you recommend? Ideally a link to one would be a massive help!

Go for the ELM327 like this:

Then download Forscan for PC..(it's Free)...and you should be good to go...

I also have an IDS system which does work and I've been an advocate of using it for quite some time... but it was a right ball-ache to get running properly, took me a couple of weeks and help from Loot on here to get me up and running...Thanks mate..! :mrgreen:

I bought the above USB ELM327 a few weeks ago, downloaded Forscan from the interweb...and it just works, simple as that.. :wink:

What access does this give you though? Can you recode items or is it just a fault code reader?

Why do ppl buy the vcx nano? Isn't it worse than buying a clone vcm2? Kind of like buying a reproduction fake gucci handbag? :shock:

Can you program modules using the Forscan software, like the PCM for example?
