Temporarily disconnecting the side sliding door central lock

Postby vampirequeen » Sun Sep 17, 2017 12:36 pm

We need to do something which lets us choose when the central locking works on the sliding side door. We thought of covering the connection bit with some card to interfere with the door/van connection. If it works, would it do any permanent damage to the central locking of the door or the upset the rest of the van? We would only do it when the van is parked up and the engine is switched off.

On my campervan when I park up I single lock the van from the inside and then unlock the side door with the turn knob this leaves the rest of the doors locked .at night I only single lock the van so the doors can be opened manually I'd hate to sleeping in a van at night and need to get out and rely on the central locking to work

That's our problem. It's a DIY campervan and the sliding door is our main escape route. Sadly it locks itself completely when it shuts. That's why we thought about covering the connections to stop it locking altogether then we can put a chain on the inside to stop scallies from opening it when we're in bed.

I believe you can alter the locking sequence by re-progranning the central locking. That way you can single lock it from the inside like Dumper does in his van. My van works the same way as Dumper, so it must be possible.

I'm not sure if it can be done via the key and ignition, or if you have to do it through the OBDII port with a reader.

I'm sure someone will be able to tell you exactly how to do it.

On my mk6 sometimes to open the door on single look I have to pull the handle and turn the lock nob at the same time as it sometimes after turning the nob to unlock and then pull handle to open it flicks back to lock to give the impression it is double locked when it is not

Thanks for the advice but our central locking is very temperamental at the best of times so we're not really confident about messing about with it too much. We stuck a bit of card over the connections and it stopped it locking and when removed it locked properly. We're hoping this is going to work in the long term.

Update.....don't do it. Using card worked at first but then the central locking started to sulk and finally locked even though the card was in place. Then it refused to open. We had to take off the door card, trace the cables and release it from inside the door.

Oh well time to come up with a Plan B.
