Small rattle on start up?

Postby StUerror » Wed Sep 20, 2017 4:06 pm

Hi guys,

Just wondering what this could be?...
Sometimes when I start the van it makes a rattling noise for about 2 secs then it will sound fine.
It won't do it all the time however, maybe 1 out of 5 start ups.
Other times though it can be abit of a lumpy start like it's clearing it's throat then it will be fine.
Any ideas?

lol that's totally normal as there is a slight delay in the oil system pressurising and circulating the oil round the engine, it's the timing chain etc that you can hear. It's only a problem if it doesn't go away after start up. Also the time period getting slightly longer before it goes silent usually means your getting close to needing your service done.

Cheers

Would really help if you told us what machine we're talking about?? Looking at your earlier posts still doesn't give us a clue... Mk6, Mk7, diesel, petrol/LPG, FWD, RWD, 2.0, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4, 3.2 etc..etc..??? There's too many combinations to just guess..!

A rattling timing chain may lead to major dramas down the track if not sorted sooner rather than later.
