mk7 winch fit

Postby garethdavies95 » Mon Sep 25, 2017 10:51 am

I need to fit a winch into my SWB MK7 transit. I have the winch. It will only ever pull maximum 500kg at a time. Just wondering has anybody ever tried fitting a witch drivers side of the bulkhead in the strengthened triangular section where the heavy Transit plate sits. So basically remove the heavy Transit plate and fit a witch in the gap? Would the bulkhead be strong enough to support a 500kg pull?

Thanks

Gareth

Lecky board 4x4 probably have had them at some point or some of them at least have to admit I like the idea it could be a Usefull one, could also rear mount it, or even in the back of the van ideal for pulling stuff into the back then also..

I have a 4000lb winch in the back of my Mk7 RWD LWB....It's actually bolted through the floor just behind where the bulkhead would be, it a little off center towards the drivers side as the rear of the gearbox and the change cables etc are under there and the fuel tank is towards the passenger side. I used 4"x2"x1/4" support plates underneath too, plenty strong.

I use it to pull my jet powered Go-Kart into the van, it only weighs ~165kg though, the winch does it easily.

Aye..I could...but she's a tad noisy and uses a stupid amount of fuel

Full throttle, full afterburn...45 seconds to drink 20 liters of jet fuel... Has near 400ponies though...not bad for something weighing 165kgs..!

Be aware that if this is in a work van you will have a whole heap of grief with the Provision & Use of Works Tools Regulations, the Lifting Operations & Lifting Equipment Regulations, Health & Safety Risk Assessments & Method Statements.

I'll guess (without looking at the BMM) the maximum loading of the bulkhead will be Zero.

LOL...  Wow...you've certainly come very close...I do use alloy ramps to load into the Tranny...and it does well over 120mph...has actually been clocked at 264kmh, (a tad over 160mph), on a 2km long airstrip ..! It's a silly thing really...it's horrendously loud @145+dbi and totally impractical for anything useful  ...but it's a bit of fun nonetheless   I take it to a lot of car shows and charity events to hopefully entertain the onlookers..
