Bad start and cutting out

Postby MJ80 » Sun Oct 08, 2017 11:51 am

MK6 2.0 tdci fed
Last week the van had a starring problem which cleared up after 2 days, but it has started again.
When you turn the key it fires but runs really rough and feels like it wants to shake itself to pieces. Second try and it goes and runs fine. Sometimes it will start second time then the revs drop and it stops, accelerator has no effect.
I'm wondering if it could be the tensioner (was replaced 2 years ago) or if it is fuel issue.
The issue started last week when I was in the UK (warm start), drove back to Germany and it's been fine until this morning.
Any ideas?

I changed the fuel filter on mine the other day because of a really lumpy idle and loss of power. Has made a massive difference, might not be the cure to your problem but cheap to try and worth doing regardless.

I'll go and empty the filter and see if it full of crap. It's genuine ford and only had 2500 miles on it. Fitted it just before the trip st the start of September.

is it a tdDI or CI filter?

either way, check it and also look at the glass indicator if it is not red and if nothing is wrong then get the codes read.

Bad start and cutting out most probably be 1 or more duff injectors, codes will confirm. Buy yourself a elm327 and download forscan its cheaper than paying a garage to read the codes. N

Code reader has arrived. I have plugged it in with forscan - I am confused as to which position the HS-CAN switch should be in as there is no way of telling as the sticker bears no relation to the orientation to the switch position. How can I tell which is correct.
Codes I have come up with are:
P0623
P0200
P1608
The van was difficult to start and ran rough before cutting out and is now sat refusing to start.
I emptied loads of crud out of the fuel filter which has only been on 4000 miles (genuine ford), checked air filter was dry
I'm thinking it is electrical

P0200 Injector Circuit Malfunction
P1608 Internal ECM Malfunction

P0623 Ford Transit DTC Meaning

P Powertrain Code - Problem is related engine, transmission and emissions systems.
0 SAE - Generic
6 Vehicle Speed Control And Idle Control System
2 Cruise Control Servo Indicates Low
3 TFP Valve Position Switch-Drive Without Drive Ratio

Check the wiring from the pump especially where it goes behind/over the starter motor, you will need to remove the plastic cover of the wires and check each wire for chaffing/breaks. N
