That would catch me out. Never heard of them until now. Are they a factory option or just aftermarket?

Looking on ebay I can see one which takes an extra 3.3 litres (!). Not sure if I would get any benefit though as I change my oil & filter quite often, about every 6k miles or less. I like how the deep sump oil pickup is sold separately....

Min to max I thought was a litre on all vehicles.

I might be corrected.

Dip stick will give you a accurate enough measurement.

I thought the same thing, which is why I always put half a litre in from the low mark.
I don't like to overfill, and it doesn't need to be full.

My next door neighbour bless her, she was low on oil (1.2 corsa b) so she put a gallon in

Yeah that's why it isn't running very well mrs

The dip stick is such a good seal to the tube when it is pulled up a vacuum pulls oil up and gives a false reading.
So now I pull the stick out, wipe it and only put it in until the O rings rests on the top of the tube.
That means you have to add about 15mm to the level since that is the amount of dip stick not pushed in.

It works for me!

Geoff

This is unecessary because even if it did create a vacuum, the oil level in the tube would only rise by the same distance you have moved the dipstick and not alter the measurement.

I appreciate the logic of what you say, however, in practice if my dipstick is pushed fully home and then pulled out all I get is oil all up the bottom bit of the stick. maybe it's not suction but some other reason, I don't know. My point remains, it works for me.

Is the end of the tube that guides the dipstick submerged in oil in the sump? That is the only way I can imagine this happening. If the guide tube stops short of the sump oil level then it shouldn't be possible for it to vacuum up any oil?

My neighbor did something similar...she owns a 6.2Liter LS2 Commodore, was a tad low on oil...so...she put 6.2 liters of oil in it...made sense to her I guess..! :?
