Time for a new cylinder head.....

Postby onemanpeloton » Tue Oct 10, 2017 3:59 pm

Hi all

I suffered the dreaded timing chain tensioner fault recently and now need a new cylinder head. Bugger!

Ive had the old cylinder hear removed and got the numbers off it.

Can anyone advise how i can determine which other heads will fit? Is there a certain range of parts that will fit?

Van is an 06 t350 125.

Thanks :-)

I doubt you'll need a new head...possibly the rocker ladder may be cracked/broken or the ladder bolts may have pulled... but the head itself should still be ok.

Valves rarely bend as they're straight on to the pistons, they're more likely to lift the rocker ladder or pull the bolts, very common and repairable.

A new or second-hand ladder assy and a nice new timing chain/tensioner kit should see you sorted.

The rocker and cylinder head are always one inseparable part, with one collective number, from the begining together tooled during production. It is wrong idea put on head the rocker from another head.

Fair call..!

Hopefully it's just pulled a couple of bolts and he can repair the threads.

Usually if couple of bolts are pulled out - rocker is broken... It is very fragile part.

Thanks for all the replies so far!

The local garage has inspected the engine and removed the head so im kind of trusting them when they tell me that the head needs replacing.

Im fairly mechanically minded but have never looked at the vans engine internals (but have some experience with motorbike engine internals). So could someone recommend how i might check if its possible to replace the rocker rather than the head? Or are we all in agreement now that they are one single part?

Thanks again. Hoping to keep this repair as cheap as poss as the garage quoted me £1700. £700 of which is a brand new head from Ford
