Mk7 alternator removal

Hi all,
I need to remove the alternator and I googled it, checked it in the haynes manual and it seems pretty straightforward.. hm says to disconnect the connector and the terminal from the the back of the alternator which is looks impossible for me from either up- or downward..what's the right way to do it?

Disconnect the battery first then it’s straight forward

it's a fwd.. I've managed to loosen the bolts now it's a pain really..the servo pump pipe running 2inch in front of one of the bolt and the intercooler pipe in front of the other.no chance for socket.. not much space to remove the alternator from its place neither..will see tomorrow..
