Mk7 2009 2.4 rwd van, No drive

Postby fatty sr » Thu Oct 12, 2017 7:50 pm

First time you put a post up is when you have problems.

had the van 5 weeks. First two weeks van parked up while on holiday. Got a mk7 2.4 rwd van. was driving and lost drive. Got aa towed home. checked clutch pedal and had no pressure or anything so decided to change master as had similar problem on different vehicle. Changed it, bled it and got some pressure. Started van foot on clutch, put in gear and no drive.

tried a few times and nothing. Decided to try something so with van running, grabbed gearstick and slowly shoved it into gear. No noise, grinding or anything. So jumped to conclusion that release bearing gone through pressure plate keeping clutch engaged or ripped centre out of drive plate. Had both in past. Decided to pop clutch slave out and have a quick gander inside. clutch slave literally flew out when I rotated it. Looked in hole and clutch arm/carrier looked out of position.

Decided to pull gearbox and go from there. dropped it out expecting a DMF. it's been swapped to a SMF. heard good and bad things about conversion so I'm keeping out of that arguement. Checked with ford and they said it supposed to have the dmf. Besides the SMF, the clutch looks fine.

Everything is now pointing to gearbox problems. Any common faults that could apply. Have heard about the welded gear in the gearbox that could fail, but would that throw all gears?

If we assume the clutch is still in good nick and you can put it in "ALL" gears and still have no drive, I suspect your 1st motion shaft (input shaft) has possibly broken. There's some talk about SMF's doing damage to some gearboxes but I don't think there's not a lot of evidence to support this....there's many who have fitted SMF's with no issues.

With the gearbox out of the vehicle, can you put it in any gear and turn the input shaft by hand..?? If nothing happens at the other end, you're gearbox is not well. :(

5 or 6 speed :?: You should have at least 4th gear  Did you check if the drive shaft turns :?:

5 speed. Gearbox has gone to a specialist to be looked at. I am not taking any chances with it, but I am thinking the input shaft has stripped a gear off it. will report back when it comes back
