ECU swap and re program procedure

Postby grembo » Tue Oct 17, 2017 11:54 am

has any one done a thread on a walk through explanation of the best practice to swap and reprogram a ECU for the 2.2 TDCI (puma engine) 11 reg
there seams to be so many conflicting bits of info about on the net
so i thought best to ask the guys that know on here
i have the old eco removed as its dead and smell of burning electronics
i have a second hand eco here from a same model van
and access to a computer with the ford IDS installed
i have the van on charge
and i have access to the in-code out-code when required to set PATS up

so any links to threads that cover the replacement and re programming will be greatly appreciated

Don't know about later versions but if you have V86 of ids then you need extended programming enabled.
After that just follow the instructions for module replacement.

Have read through the "idiots guide to ids" viewtopic.php?f=5&t=155150&start=1245&hilit=ecu+program
mk7 08reg 2.4 T350 LWB MHR RWD
mk6 X reg 2.4 T350 LWB MHR RWD - scrapped
mk4 J reg 2.5 L300 LWB MHR RWD - sold on

Notice a trend there ? not too big and not too small

if replacement ECU is from a van with same engine etc
will it run by just enabling the PATS system again ?
will it actually run then with the mis matched injector codes etc to get the vehicle moved ?

or will it have to have a complete reprogram calibration files etc done injector codes and pump learn

thanks

If replacement Ecu(pcm) is from the same spec vehicle, then it will run with only pats coded.

The injector correction codes and pump/injector learns are for calibration and fine tuning.
But I wouldn’t run it long without doing them.

or

is there a way of backing up my old calibration file from old eco ?
as its wanting to use a later calibration file which i have downloaded already

i have retreaved the Injector codes ready to be changed already

thanks on advance

quick question
is it posable to choose which calibration file you want to put into PCM ?
apart from renaming the one you want to the name that its asking for when doing update

cheers

Don't think that will work as the calibration name is in the code contained in the file.

You can find the original factory calibration on a sticker on the passenger door pillar.

If you have kept ids log files the calibrations installed can be read from those.
