Heated windscreen electrics

Postby Driveconvert » Tue Oct 17, 2017 2:27 pm

HI All

I do not seem to be able to find a thread that explains this? so..

I have a 07 LWB HT 2.4L Duratorq-TDCi van and due to a crack in the windscreen I am going to be having it replaced via my insurance. But I was asked if it was heated or not (which it is not) but I said it was on thinking that I could retro fit the wiring so I can have a heated windscreen.

What do I need to check for on the fuse box to see if it is able to take it and what wiring do I need to buy?

Cheers

the wiring is probably already in place. you would only need the proper switch on the dash, the relays and fuse in the right hole.

read the manual and see if the correct fuses and relay holders have actual contacts in them and wires coming out. if they do you can be sure the rest of wiring is there also.

Thanks for the replies,
I have had a look at the fuse box under the seat and the cables are missing but I have tried to have a look at the wiring in the main fuse box but I am struggling to remove the Gray fuse housing from the black holder but I am struggling to work out how too do it?

I have had the windscreen fitted now and I have had a look into what relays I am needing.

I have phoned Ford just so I know what the part code is and how much it would be from them and the part code is F4751536 which they want an eye watering £69 each for
Dose anyone know of any after market relays that will do the same thing?

It is a timed relay.

Try the breakers. And see if it is the same relay as the mk6 version.

Dutch guy it's a mk7,mk6 has timer and slave relays because there's no bcm.

they are standard 4 pin relays, you can get them from the scrap yard for cheap, Ford are stupid expensive .

A simpler way of installing the heated windows is use the control wire that comes off the bcm.
This wire is basically a logic ground 8)

So.

Both relays low input coil is ignition live 10A fuse.

Both relays high power output through relay is 40A fused/4.00 cable through relay to screen left 1 and right 1 both ground cables go to A pillar 8mm ground bolt 1 each side foot well.

Now the brains.

Both relays low input coil logic ground goes to bcm connector c4 pin 6! But in order to latch the dash switch lamp you need to spur off this and add it to the dash switch cable which is switch c1 pin 5 and the wire colour is violet/orange just strip it and solder or twist the wire from there and to bcm and to relay. This latches the switch on the dash or does the yellow led when you press the switch to show it is on.

Have you done it yet?

Oh if you insist on doing it internally then you prize the fusebox apart by bit there's tabs all around and it is a ball ache, but you remove the back black piece first which shows you the main fusebox but then the inner parts come out in quadrants.

Thanks Loot for the info that is going to be a very big help when I put it all together and I think I will try and go for the proper instillation that way if I every sell the van if anyone looks at the electrics they will know what everything dose..

I am just getting the bits together at the moment and I have been to a breakers yard and got the relays and 40amp fuses but the the switch was missing and 3/4 of the wiring. I have looked for the switch on the likes of Ebay and found the one Ford say is the right one and I am just hoping that the loom has all the all the other connectors behind the dash..

Kind regards

I round the dash loom to be complete(switch to bcm, the other parts were missing tho :-(

If you see on my thread it should get you 90%(i did the how too without any wiring diagrams which i now have  )

But as i say, the control wire from the bcm is the switched ground that turns both relays on and times then etc, the rest is power and ground which can be slightly different as long as the correct thickness wire is used and correct fuses.

Have you got the little 10A red blade fuse in your fusebox?
If so great, if not then you'll need to add all the terminals in the fusebox for the fuses and relays. They are basically crimped to the bussbar for the 4mm wires and similarly for the thinner 10A wires.
