Egr valve cleaning

Postby Greyxr2 » Wed Oct 18, 2017 3:55 pm

Hi, my eml is on due to the egr valve so i cleaned it out at the weekend but i couldnt move the valve, does it only open electronically? I didnt want to force it. Its on a mk7 2.2

Cheers

It is on a cork screw which is spring loaded and has gears which are in the head, you can't push the valve open from the business end :-(

The fault it's with the potentiometer in the head and you can't fix that no matter how much you clean it.

If the egr was full of crud then you might get some more use from it, if you got p0404 then that is what i said, waste of time.

Why not treat it to a nice new 1?

What's the real difference between the two Loot?

I don't need one at the mo, but I always keep an eye on threads like this for when the inevitable happens.

The first 1 is the original type then in about 2010 they updated it to the second 1(from my observations) i noticed that the second 1 closes in from the exhaust where as the old 1 closes against, so i think it is a better setup on the new 1 and also it looks simpler but less load on the gears compared to the old 1.

Anyway, i replaced my 2007 old one with the new type and it seems perfect :-)

Upto you tho but those prices are good i think as they are usually 100+

Hi, ive recently had 0404 come up, garage i used recommended replacing it as cleaning often doesnt work so im looking for a new one atm. The ford ones are crazy prices £280 ish. Are these after market ones decent? Im always a little wary of after market parts are any makes better than others? It seems to make sense to go for the updated one will it definately fit?

+1....They work fine, mine has been on for over two years, no issues so far on my daily driver.

I looked at the second link posted but i started looking at others on ebay out of curiosity and ended up buying a different egr valve to the link posted by accident, i must not have went back far enough in my browser and bought the wrong one! I didnt notice till i fitted it on the van and the water outlets are slightly different.

Anyway i think its from a late mk7/mk8 should it it still work on a 2010 mk7? The eml is still on but the egr cleans itself when the engine is turned off so working as it should?

Cheers

Clean the map sensor up. The mil would clear but you can manually clear it if you have a code reader.

Egr should be fine unless it is totally not for that van but since you fitted it I'll assume it is correct :-)
