If it has done a fair few miles then I'd fit a new ignition switch anyway as they're only 15 pounds for all the trouble.

Well it seemed to run Ok, and tick over nicely for a little bit before it plays up, not sure if it's git worse since he left but it didn't seem that bad before other than it cutting out.
Sure the problem will become apparent soon.

Check the big blue/red cable under the +jumpstart point for corrosion, I’ve seen this give problems like battery failing symptoms.

Ok so put it all back together, it was running lovely, it was ticking over like this video for about 15mins and didnt miss a beat! https://youtu.be/vqYACcBenqI

Took it for a spin around the local area, drove great but aure there was a very slight miss, after a 15min drive though it was cutting out again and surging on idle. I noticed that if I held the revs at anything under 1300rpm it would die every few seconds as it does when idling, but if I hold them at 1300rpm or above it is sweet as a nut? Could it be struggling to pull fuel through? Im confused why it would still stall running from the can???

It's nearly spot on, hope old is the fuel filter? Has it ever cut out at high revs?
Have you changed the air filter at all?
(For this I'd buy new Ford fuel filter and check air filter is dry and clean)
That scv looks a couple of years old.

If it was me I'd buy a new 1, buy 4 x new green injector ' o'rings.
Make sure that big kink in the white fuel line is fixed or replace the pipe.
Don't think it's the ignition switch but looking at the state of wear on the steering wheel (can't see mileage) I'd replace the switch.
Make sure 100% that the prv is in 1 piece (i know you said you got it from Ford but was the washer a thin copper 1 or thick aluminium 1? .)

Of course you don't want to keep cutting stuff but most of the above is reasonable price, imo the van cutting out is a starvation fault rather than electrical, it could be the scv failing and cutting fuel etc, it isn't actually running out of fuel because it starts straight up after stall.

Bloody Ford eh.

Nobody can diagnose completely random faults like internal pcm error or wires chafing, except from experience of common ones like the starter wiring in some situations.

190k loot.
So new fuel filter, scv, and ign switch just incase.

The air filter is new , I'm sure Lee said there wasn't one in it when he bought it so he bought a new one and fitted it.

Thats right Mark when I bought the van I drove it for a week before realising there was no air filter in it!! It went like stink but drank fuel, it run really nice but rapidly went downhill throughout the week! It was a trade sale so nothing I could do, buyer beware I suppose. The prv was bought from Fords parta department, it came with a thin copper washer and I had to steal my misses tweezers to get the old one out!! A local mechanic changed the pump to try and fix the van and said it was from a good engine so assume its a good scv but who knows, its just strange that its exactly the same fault as with the old pump?? My old prv was definately knackered, it came out in pieces. So although its a pain with the cutting out am I likely to be doing any damage? I cant afford anymore new parts just yet lol

Oh and I dont know how old the filter is, the van has a full service history from new and was last serviced 10k miles ago, the service indicator on the top of the housing says its good?? And no it has never cut out at high revs, my issue is only at tickover or when approaching junctions or roundabouts and the engine is idleing.

Do I have to buy a genuine Ford scv or will a pattern part do? Any reccomendations where to buy?

Genuine Ford scv genuine denso should be the same.

4 green injector 'o'rings only cheap from Ford, lube them when you fit them don't pinch them gently twist the leak off union on slowly.

The prv is a safety device that protects the fuel rail and injectors, if it was blown then it is because the scv was unable to stay under 1600 bar and is why the revs were all over the shop.
If the new 1 is the same then it suggests that it is also crap, but my observation is that the 1 in the video looks fairly rusty so i personally would want to fit a shiny new 1 and pump learn, injector learn that's with the Ford fuel filter and 'o' rings and white girl pipe with no kinks in it.

Also consider doing a pcm update at the very beginning but after clearing dtc's.

This will bring it all upto spec and should get it mint.

We still don't know about injector leak off or whether it could do with flow plugs. But no codes for glow plug relay and it previously passed the pilot learn so I'll go on a limb and suppose they are good :-)

You can inspect the 'o' rings for nicks or damage and you can put a little bit of clear grease on the edge of them which will seal them but only if no damage found.

It's basically getting everything up to spec, most vans go without for so long.

Last 1i did was a 2.4 140ps jumbo mk7

Kept cutting out worse than yours and he said he wasn't able to drive it and it was dangerous and it was a bitch to start.

I told him valves, he took it to the garage who fitted a copy prv and couldn't do a pilot learn and the cog warning lamp came on and it wouldn't start and the batteries were flat.

I got it and tried a few things and i did a leak off test which showed 1 faulty injector so i got him to buy 2 genuine valves and an injector which i fitted and i did the learns and the batteries charged etc. Updated it, pump and pilot learn and that was it Bob on tickover and started on the button, he's still using it and i think 8 months or more ago.

I'd call it neglect but you can't know when to change them, it's hard enough getting Ford or independents who are on the ball with this stuff, not to mention there's still old school mechanics who like to ignore the programming/diagnostics aspect :-(

Still, if it was a mk6 it would just be instant death of the fuel pump so mustn't grumble :P
