ISO Adaptor for MK6

Postby ritchie-t » Sun Nov 05, 2017 11:35 am

Hi there,

I have searched the message board and done lots of searching on the internet, but I cannot seem to find the ISO adaptor I need to connect my standard MK6 radio plugs to the ISO standard for after market head units.

All searches seem to come back with the same plug connector. which looks like this:

Below is a picture of the plugs on my standard harness which as you can see look similar, but the tabs on the side are different an the pin blades go vertical and not horizontal:

I really am trying to avoid tapping into the original wires if I can help it.

Has anybody done this before with the same plug?

Thanks,
Ritchie

This was the radio that I removed from the Mk6 before I sold it, complete with the adaptor needed..........

Yes you are right, I was just not looking at them properly. They are horizontal.

It is just the tabs on the side that seem to be off. I have one of those adaptors that Altransit shows in his picture, but they just do not fit in. Perhaps trimming the the tabs off? Just seems a little wrong doing that

I thought mine was wrong at first but they do fit, they are slightly different so you cant put the wrong one in the wrong plug. N

I did try to fit it. Unfortunately it will not go. I if you look careful at my picture you will see at the at the sides the plastic bits that extend out are not the same as the groove on the plug. This is why I an thinking of cutting them off or cutting a groove into the side of the adaptor. It just seems strange that I am having to consider this.

They look exactly the same as the ISO connector I have in my garage that I used in my mk6 and also my mk3 Mondeo. I think pretty much all the ford stereo connectors were the same for that era.

Did you have the plugs the right way round? They will only fit in one direction and they don't fit each other so that you can plug the speaker one into the power one if that makes sense?

Whereabouts in the country are you Richie some one local may be able to help you out?

Thanks for all the replies.

You guys have me wondering if I just didn't try hard enough :? . I have had others outside of the board tell me now that it should still go and that the tabs do not even line up with those grooves anyway.

It didn't go, I looked at it and thought "those grooves won't line up" and then just didn't try again. The van is not with me at the moment, but I will have a go next weekend and see if it was just a lack of patience that was my problem

Looks like I was just being a spanner and not looking hard enough first time around. The adaptor I had was correct

Somewhat confusing that the adaptor sockets are a different size to the original loom and have different groove locations so that by eye look like they will not fit, but they do actually go together.

Thanks for offering suggestions :)
