the 13 pin is the "new" model as a replacement for the old 7 pin that always -sorta- works. it can handle more power, seals better and it has many more pins so you can charge external batteries and have constant battery power and so on. grounding has also been inproved so you can actually have 2 physically separate batteries powering the trailer. basically you can combine the aux battery from the car/van to the trailer so you combine aux batteries if you have on in your trailer without fear of draining your starter battery. it also carries fog lights and it disables your own vans fog light if you hook something up and it is physically locking in place so it cant fall out or put in halfway so water can never get in messing up the contacts. its superior in every way to the old 7 pin job. might want to carry a adapter if you dont want to convert your own trailers to the jaeger connector. it also enables you to charge up your starter AND your aux battery if you put a 13 pole on your battery charger instead of the battery clamps.

I think a Hykee lock would be a lot easier and a lot less expensive to fit than buying a towbar ,trailer ,socket ect and it will be with the van and not on top of the wardrobe when you are miles away from home   Or does your bird say is that a jaeger in your pocket or are you just happy to see me
On the sixth day God created a Sprinter on the seventh he gave it away and bought a TRANSIT

I haven’t got a tow bar fitted in my van so that’s not an option.

I’ve got a dummy odb coming and I think I’m going to fit the hykee lock, and slam locks on the rear. And also the rear loom guards. Had the slam locks on my old berlingo a while back and they are good even if they are a bit of a pain in the ass to keep opening. Not as much of a pain as having all your kit nicked.

I think I’m going to get an aftermarket alarm fitted too.

There are ways around slam locks on the rear of a transit. Trust me, I've had to open a few when the lads at work have locked the keys in.

Simple, takes only seconds and no tools.

Funnily though, It's only this week that I've seen the first mk7 Transit fitted with the correct kit to defeat the easy way in, I saw it on saturday when I fitted loads lights to it.

i am talking about powering the battery when the van is dead so you can power the central locking in a civilized manner. having no lock at all beats a hykee any day of the week. if you take security seriously then you should also remove the lock from the bonnet and mount a cable system so you can only open it from the cab.

I got ones of those pedal vaults, seems pretty robust and a good " another layer " of security, different barrel on my door also.

So if you were to have a different door lock barrel to the ignition barrel would that not be just as good as a hykee lock?

Would the central locking still work as it should if you change the whole barrel?

You can buy replacement barrels and keys on fleebay cheap enough.

Any ford tibbe lock can be opened in seconds. Doesnt matter if its the same as the ignition or not. Dont waste your time and effort swapping one easily by-passed lock for the same lock that just works from a different key, thats madness.

In an ideal world.....

Disbale Ignition with a hidden switch.
Disable and/or move OBD with a dummy or fake live port.
Slam locks all round, they disable all the door handles, with this extra for rear http://www.vanlocks.co.uk/choose-your-v ... fvip5657u7
Disclock on stearing wheel and maybe a pedal box.
Loom guards.
Hykee on driver door.
Tracker.

None of this stops them breaking a window for entry, to prevent against that you'd need some pretty unpractical window grills like a securicor van or something which I wouldnt recommend.

Can anyone techy tell me if disabling the ignition live at source would cause any problems? That sounds like a good simple option to me. Just got to remember to turn it on before trying to start the van!

A way to disable the rear doors would be good.

A hidden switch of something, so no matter what they do to the drivers door lock it doesn't open the rear door.

The more professional their would just steal the van, but it seems the most common theft is open rear doors, grab tools and run.
So strengthen the top of the doors too.

You've got to love it when someone resurrects a 2 year old thread and asks how to break into a van on their first post.
