the 13 pin is the "new" model as a replacement for the old 7 pin that always -sorta- works. it can handle more power, seals better and it has many more pins so you can charge external batteries and have constant battery power and so on. grounding has also been inproved so you can actually have 2 physically separate batteries powering the trailer. basically you can combine the aux battery from the car/van to the trailer so you combine aux batteries if you have on in your trailer without fear of draining your starter battery. it also carries fog lights and it disables your own vans fog light if you hook something up and it is physically locking in place so it cant fall out or put in halfway so water can never get in messing up the contacts. its superior in every way to the old 7 pin job. might want to carry a adapter if you dont want to convert your own trailers to the jaeger connector. it also enables you to charge up your starter AND your aux battery if you put a 13 pole on your battery charger instead of the battery clamps.

Simple, takes only seconds and no tools.
Funnily though, It's only this week that I've seen the first mk7 Transit fitted with the correct kit to defeat the easy way in, I saw it on saturday when I fitted loads lights to it.

Would the central locking still work as it should if you change the whole barrel?
You can buy replacement barrels and keys on fleebay cheap enough.
