Transit Mk6 2000 3.5.
Wiper linkage bushes and different wipers.
Judder and unwiped screen areas had been noted for some years. The wiper arm had been twisted to try and correct the problems.
The unit had been taken out some months ago and it was noted that the bushes were worn.
The spigots can be felt to be loose in the bushes without taking out the unit.
Judder can be noted as the wipers move. The judder can be caused by the angle of the wiper to the screen.
The judder can be caused by worn/loose bushes/spigot or and a wiper arm blade holder pivot that is too stiff.
Two pieces of tube for each bush which were a neat fit over the spigot were cut to a length. The bushes drilled out from both ends to take the pipe pieces.
One wiper had pressed in pivot which was more flexible than the wiper with a spindle. The more flexible pivot did not have judder.
Bonnet closed. Remove wiper arms. Remove screws (torx) in plastic cover, some have plastic caps over them. Lift bonnet. Remove more screws. Remove rubber draught strip. Lift away plastic, remove washer pipe. Metal trough, undo bolts along top and side, in trough undo one 10mm bolt that holds wiper linkage unit, lift plastic side strip to access, lift drivers end wiggle metal trough out. Undo two 10mm bolts that hold wiper linkage unit and wiggle out unit.
Spigots etc greased and reassembled. Tested assembled unit. Fitted unit, trough and plastic.
Noted judder from the drivers wiper which was stiffer at the pivot than the passenger’s wiper.
