Ok, decided it was time to attack prior to the part arriving Wed,

I've got a 2 poster so I decided I needed to get it up in the air and go in from below,
20 minutes later and I've removed the starter motor and oil filter housing. 8)

Looks like I need to remove at least 2 injector pipes, and I need to make a special socket, grinder and old socket should do.

Tune in tomorrow for another exciting episode,

Will the van slip off the hoist?
Will I be able to get rid of the diesel taste?
Is the biscuit situation really that good?
Should I have liberally sprayed the solenoid with WD40 before packing up for the night?

add to that,

will I lose a finger in the process
will I end up having to remove the entire pump
will I win the world record for the most amount of swearing in a day
will I complete the job and realise I forgot a bolt and had to take it all apart again

I do hope you have better luck than I did you have a hoist so thats a much better start than trying to do it with one side jacked up!
Looking forward to the next instalment :-)

Cheers
Chris.

I have found the most vital tool for doing any job on my van is a lump hammer  not for smashing the part but for taking my anger out on the driveway with  usually it a torrent of f words. N

The funny part was disconnecting the coolant hoses from the oil cooler, the water ran down the raised arm and out the lower one, it extinguished my newly lit cigarette!!
Good job it wasn't petrol!

Your supposed to wedge the cigarette between the bumper and headlight when messing with water, that's what I do   N

Ages go I though there's no flippin way I'm hoisting that b'stad, it's bloody huge, huge and full of air, but looks are deceptive, right?

I tried my x-ray vision on it to try and gauge it's centre of balance, then I set my mind to 'super powers' but it freaked out and defaulted to 'send your least favourite mate under it first'.
He did and he's still the same shape, so I set to work, AFTER sticking some some long stands under it.

I think it around 2.2T, but it looks much more!

So, the old solenoid is out. :D

I was all set to remove the big one in between injector pipes before I woke up and realised it's the lower down one.

Long story short, I removed the pump steady mounting which gave me access to the 2 retaining torx bolts for solenoid.

I've heard they can be seized but mine came out just fine. :)

Just got to wait for the new part now.

Out of interest,

Is there a way to test the old solenoid now that I have it out hanging on it's wires :?:
