Good job it wasn't petrol!

That's a major dissapointment, I hope you let it dry in the sun for later, oh wait you don't have sun over there :-)

We do have the sun over here,

Parts arrived today, :D

I ordered ONE solenoid, and one oil filter housing gasket, cos I removed that for access from below and I'm a firm believer in new gaskets if you remove something. 8)
Well, it turns out that when you order a solenoid for £205 it actually comes with said gasket, and an egr metal crush gasket, and the electrical crimp connectors, and the shrink sleeves, and the anti chafe sleeving and 2 new bolts, and finally a cuddly toy (made that up)

So, I begun by snipping of the factory fitted connector that is fitted to the new part, I then pre-fitted the 2 new insulated crimp connectors (yes, I remembered the shrink sleeves), I then proceeded to install the new solenoid to the pump with the new bolts, fed the new wires up behind the pump, so, all good so far.

Lowered the hoist with the intention of connecting the wires from above, and the realisation dawned on me that it's going to be a bit tight to get my crimping pliers in with the inlet manifold hindering my access, so I whipped that off :!:

Glad I did, because even with manifold off it was still a bit of a task to crimp the original wires to the new ones.

Ok, with manifold off It also dawned on me that now would be a fine opportunity to change the glow plugs, so off I scoots to purchase new plugs and manifold gaskets.

Ford were having a laugh, £5.50 per individual gasket, multiplied by 8, no way hosay, and they were wanting to yank my trousers down over the glow plugs, £15 each Sir, Err No I said :!:
Round to a motor factors and got gaskets for £2.50 a pop, and plugs for £9.50 each. Sorted. 8)

Round 2.
New plugs in, all gooped in copaslip.
Manifold back on (surprisingly free of gunk)
EGR etc all back on etc.

Hoisted her fat ass back up in the air again, pump mounting bracket back on, oil filter housing back on with new gasket, cruising baby.

Thought I'd better have a squint at the starter, it's crap, pinion gear is worn on the shaft, that may explain the random awful engagement, the solenoid and swing arm were free. New starter needed soonish then

So, starter back on for the moment, new oil and filter added, new antifreeze added, battery connected and.........
f*** all :!: :x

Somehow the battery got flat :?: Getting late, getting hungry, whipped battery out and stuck it on charge,
I do hope tomorrow bring me success with the original issue.

Yeah sorry, not intentional.

Had 5 minutes this morning to throw the charged battery back in, brimming with exuberant positiveness (me, not the battery, which is good)

Key in ign and CLICK, oh wonderful. :x

I had the starter on the bench in an earlier episode where I'd whipped of the solenoid and arm, which was fine as it turned out, I even put it back on correctly (pos up neg down), which was easy as you can see the outline left by the semi circle grommet.

It was a bit of a task fastening the cables onto it last night so either I've got a stray cable unconnected dangling in the dark breeze or something else.

Edit: w*** :x
Thinking back now I may just have slightly forgot the little starter body earth which goes onto the solenoid earth pin, oh what a tit I is.
Hope it's that :!:

Can't manage to get a look tonight, but I'll suss it in the morning. For definite, promise.

So tune in tomorrow to see what else I've forgotten.

Aye its sad and lonely without the van

It only took me 30 minutes to change my injectors and then 5 weeks to get Lucifer to actually start (with the help of another set of injectors)
