Can’t remove old lock barrel for hykee!!!!

Postby Steve192 » Tue Nov 21, 2017 6:01 pm

Hi guys,

Been out here for an hour now, it’s cold and dark and I can’t get the bloody barrel out of my mk7 2012 Transit!

The square tab thing will not go in no matter what way I turn the key! I’ve been spraying it with grease and hitting the bloody thing with a screwdriver but it just won’t drop in far enough for me to remove the barrel. I’ve removed the clip and everything else you should but it just won’t budge.

It moves in a tiny bit but won’t pop in. How far does the key have to be turned for it to pop in???

It’s a 2012 can. I have 3 keys. 2 are brand new. Never been used. All fit the lock perfectly

I’ve already searched every thing on this forum. Read that thread and another. There is 2 how to guides on them. None of which state the best procedure to release a stick lock.

Does anyone want to help with that? Or just post links to how to guides which aren’t relevant

Mine was a little stiff. A bit of wd40 and some persistence has it out

Turn the lock clockwise as far as it wants to go. Then turn it back a litlle while gently pressing on the pin. When you hit exactly the right spot, the pin should just pop in really easily. The trick is simply to find the right spot - which is admittedly not that easy to find.

I had the opposite problem to you - I got the old lock out dead easy, but struggled to get the new one in as I could not find the position where the pin would align correctly. It took me a good twenty minutes of fiddling and swearing until I got it in just the right spot and the pin just slid into place.

I’ve been spraying loads of wd40 in it and I’ve been slowly creeping the key back from full clockwise hoping it would pop in but it didn’t. I will give it another go tomorrow, didn’t really help that it was getting dark and I was losing my head with it.

Hopefully I can get it to go tomorrow. The hykee lock itself is kind of similar, it’s a tiny bit back from full turn to get the pin it. Like you said it is a tight fit and has to be EXACTLY lined up for it to drop in.

Cheers

When I replaced my lock for a Hykee, I thought that I was going to snap the key, as you need to turn it a little bit further than just unlocking the door.

Wonder what trades under your belt , something so simple yet you find it complicated

Only simple when the lock isn’t playing up. Had to drill it out so the “simple” method didn’t work. As you were
