MK7 Heater Temperature Actuator

Postby oldarry » Thu Nov 30, 2017 3:19 pm

Morning All
I'm stuck. And so is the heater on f f f f freezing cold. It looks like the temp knob isn't doing anything. I've read an old thread about the potentiometer, the cables and the actuator. I've had the pot out and metered it, it varies in stages rather than very gradually but I would guess that counts as working? But here's the thing, where is the actuator on the heater unit? and how much dash comes out to get there? I just can't find it. Anyone got a pic?
Cheers chaps

Could be the actuator failed. Aircon ones are different to non-aircon, I managed to get one from a spanish breakers via ebay.

Heater actuator is under a cover on the left side of the heater unit.

Remove the glove box.
Remove the central panel below the heater controls and gearlever.

The temperature actuator is item 4

You may need to remove a duct to get to all the screws.

Notice a trend there ? not too big and not too small

Dave you're brilliant I can't thank you enough. I somehow got it in my head that it looked like item 1, whatever that is. What is that? Anyhow I'll have a mess with it at the weekend and hopefully work out which bit is not working. I guess the actuator itself is tad thin on the ground if you had to fleabay Spain for one.

You can manually menouver the motor to hot while you search for a replacement.
They’re £120 from Ford last time I fitted one.

Item 1 is the actuator for the recirculation flap.

Got it out, tested the loom- seem all ok. the wire colours differ from v8daves old post but was able to work out from the description.

Good thinking DanT I was hoping to just adjust the flap to hot for now but there's a spring return and gravity to contend with so I don't see it staying put without something to hold it- such as the dead motor!
There's not much in there really, an electronics tech could probably work out which components aren't working, I haven't a scooby.
After some thought I put power on the motor though which didn't budge so I took it apart. Problem right there on the brushes. Totally chowdered.
And they're silly money or need importing. Ho hum.
