In need of advice!

Postby jazzthedog » Sun Dec 10, 2017 7:33 pm

Hello all,
A little over a year ago I brought a 59reg Transit 85 T260M for £4500. Since then I have spent a little under £6000 on the engine.
Looking at other threads the problem seems to be a common one, when starting the engine after it has been sat for a while clouds of white smoke (which according to the garage mechanic smells of diesel) come out of the exhaust. Only thing is I seem to have had the work done to sort this problem out. Below is a list of what I have had done, all at the same garage -

Full service - 07/16
Turbocharger replaced - 12/16
Two new injectors and injector seals and rocker cover gasket replaced - 02/17
Engine flush and oil replaced with 5w30 fully synthetic low saps oil - 03/17
Full service, four new glow plugs, head out and replaced gasket and timing chain - 09/17
New battery and water pump replaced, two new injectors - returned to garage following week as problem unresolved, two new injectors replaced under warranty - 11/17

The garage are now saying they don’t know what the problem is despite the fact it is still happening and seems to be getting worse, more smoke is now being produced and it doesn’t need to be sat for very long before it happens. The van appears to me to drive very well once going. Any and all ideas welcome!

Any clue as to the problem? Should I carry on spending money on it? Is it worth it or should I cut my losses? What will happen if I just carry on driving it? Have I been taken for a ride by the garage?

Many thanks
Dan

with out wanting to sound rude the first thing you need is to find a better garage

it sounds like they really don't know transits

Yes codes read is a must, and it sounds like the garage haven't got a clue, white smoke is usually unburnt fuel, have the garage done a pump and pilot learn, pcm update, checked scv & prv. N

If I’m honest, and at the risk of sounding naive and pretty stupid I don’t know. Kind of wish I asked for advice much sooner!
I know they did hook it up to a computer to get the injector readings but apart from that I’m clueless!
I’m based near Guildford in Surrey if anyone knows of somewhere reliable to get it looked at?
As you can probably tell engines aren’t really something I know too much about.

Guildford isn't a million miles from Vantuner in Ruislip, West London.

 I would get in contact and see if he can help .....................(MartynX on here)

He's a one man band, not a large company, best to keep your call to office hours, and not on a Sunday

Hello again, I managed to get a friend to hook the van up to the snap on computer and turns out the injectors weren’t coded, he did this and a couple of other bits and this morning there was only a bit of smoke when I revved the engine! Fingers crossed it’s hopefully sorted! Just wanted to say thanks for the help, have a good Christmas and new year everyone

+1 for finding another garage. Thats the first thing you should no.
I had a similar thing a few years ago where I poured money in and nothing came out the other end. After about 6 weeks of messing around I took it back from the garage and to the main dealers and it was fixed within 6 hours.

If they havent fixed it for that amount of cash I'd be looking to get some kind of recompense from them.
