VanTuner ECU Remap review

Postby chris72a » Sat Dec 16, 2017 10:45 am

Hi All, thought I'd post a bit of feedback about my remap.

2003 Transit MK6 2.4 90ps (was bus now camper)

Sent my ECU to Martyn all the way from AUStralia, I could have had it done here however reading previous reviews of Martyns work
I felt more comfortable sending to VanTuner.

Being so far away took a couple of weeks to recieve ECU back our postage service here is nothing but useless and worse still
the driver that delivers here likes to hang on to parcels for a couple of extra days cause he's a lazy sh*t.
Anyway once recieved plugged her in and went for a quick drive as was getting late, noticed instantly the difference in the take off
and throttle response it actually goes now when you put your foot down, Martyn said it is now around 120ps with still needing to adjust the
turbo actuator.

Today I took her for a longer drive, living in the Blue Mountains Australia, it is obviously very hilly, the thing that amazed me the most
was that hills I used to drive up, the van would drop to first gear (ASM Gearbox) and really struggle. Today she went up the hills in mostly
third gear without feeling like I was going to blow the engine up if I pushed it. Driving on freeway going from 90km to 110 was awesome
previously I would have to sit behind the slower drivers as I knew how long it would take to wind the van up to overtake, but now I can
put my foot down and overtake without it having to wind up for minutes before I can scoot past. I drove around for about 45mins just
testing and seeing what difference it made and I have to say it was worth every cent and worth sending to UK to get it done I am one
happy man right now.. Plan on doing the turbo adjustment tmz and hopefully will get a little bit more out of her. Big thanks to
Martyn at Vantuner, I have prob been a bit of a pain in the arse for him with all the questions but he is a gentleman and knows his sh*t..

Cheers
Chris.

Oh how I wish the Post office mistakenly delivered it to me, Chris

Is the diff gearing still suited to the power :?:
Is it rude to enquire about the cost :?:
Are the mountains really blue :?:

It wouldn't surprise me at one stage tracking said it had gone back to Vantuner
Diff is fine from what I can tell, really I have no f*** clue
Yes you are rude but it is on Martyns website so I don't think he will mind 200quid for postal remap
Yes but only if you close your left eye, lift your right leg and fart at the same time whilst looking to the west from mt druitt... (knobby will get this)

Best money I've spent Mrs still thinks it was out of action for a $3.00 relay :-) don't f*** tell her!!

Nice review, I've been thinking about sending one over but as its my work van I'm worried about the time off the rd.
Is the fuel usage any better or worse??
My partner and i went to the blue mountains a few yrs ago while we took a trip from tassie to watch Bon jovi, it was absolutely awesome, the cable car going across the valley with the Perspex floor was amazing, even better since it was so windy the cart was on a massive lean, every1 was shitting themselves!!!
Also the steepest train track thing in the world was great too, your truly lucky to live in such a beautiful place, well i think we both are, Aus is awesome when you look at other parts of the world!!

Hey Krem, yes the time off the road didn't effect me too much I missed one ride but hey there's plenty more. I looked at the prices of used ECU's if I was do again I'd probably buy a second hand one send it to Martyn and just swap when it comes back. Talking of all those cable car, glass floor thingy's funny you mention it, I am IT Manager there on the senior leadership team we just replaced our skyway with an all new glass floor so if you should ever be this way again let me know and can hook you up. www.scenicworld.com.au

Just to add drove her to work yesterday, pretty much all up hill, one particular hill used to slow to about 55-60kms (in an 80 zone) now 100kms all the way without the slightest feeling like it was struggling, still smiling this morning need to be careful now not to get booked, I'm sure testing my remapped ECU is not an excuse the law enforcement would accept.

I am led to believe John that if the engine is generally in good condition it doesn't put any extra strain on the motor, I'm sure Martyn could have pushed mine further but he knows the limits of what is and isn't a safe level. I regularly clean inlet manifold change oil every 5000 or so Km's as well as fuel and oil filter and have a K&N air filter, I don't thrash the van and generally as a rule don't let anyone else "borrow" the van.

Cheers
